Mission San Bernardo, from which the Spanish began their trek across Tejas along the El Camino Real.

Al Kinsall, local history guide, sports writer, and resident of Piedras Negras, regales us with the story of San Bernardo and how the Mission was only partially completed.

Al explains the domed roof structure before honoring us with a rendition of "Salve Regina" from the Catholic Mass of the 1700's.

On to Guererro, where we visit the local church off the town square.

A very simple, white adobe church....

... which suffered substantial damage during the recent heavy storms and rains...

...and yet remains a haven of rest and prayer for the local people.
Note the simplicity, even in the sanctuary.

This church bell, set outside the front door of the church,
calls the faithful to services, and was installed in 1750.

The town square's saltillo tile and adobe bandstand,
the focal point of all fiestas in Guerrero.

The Alcalde (Mayor) of Guererro discusses town history with Al and Buddy. A very kind man, he invited us back to celebrate the El Camino Real in Guerrero next year.

Mark gathers water from the Rio Grande, as he will from every major river crossing along the route.

L to R: Local School Kids, Mikail, Frank, Eagle Pass Mayor Chad Foster, Blake, Buddy, and Mark gather for a group shot before dipping our rear wheels into the Rio Grande.

Mikail, Mark, Blake, Frank, Mayor Foster, and Buddy
all dip their rear wheels into the River to mark the start of the El Camino Real Tour!

It's a boat ramp, dudes! OK, who's gonna push Mikail up this hill?

The Cinco Amigos (Buddy, Frank, Mikail, Mark, and Blake) end their day in El Indio!
