Mikail Davenport, Heritage Cyclist

Mikail Davenport is a 57-year old native Texan who contracted polio at age two. In 2000, Mikail started competing in 5K, 10K, and marathon wheelchair racing events. In 2002, Mikail conquered another health challenge: lung cancer. Less than one year after doctors removed 1/3 of his left lung, Mikail successfully completed the daunting 237-mile Sadler's Ultra Challenge Race in Alaska, followed by the 2003 Motorola Marathon, using his handcycle.

In 2004, he founded “Disabled, Not Unable”, an educational organization that assists persons with disabilities to fully develop their physical, mental, and spiritual conditioning to the utmost of their ability, and he supports the organization through his website design and consulting business.

In 2005, he retired from racing and completed the 350-mile Capitol Ride '05 to raise awareness of the capability of people with disabilities and cancer survivors.

He is an interfaith minister and President of The Alliance for Better Living, a non-profit organization assisting non-violent offenders, both in facility and in aftercare, to take control of their lives and become more productive citizens.
